The Reality of Reality Shows............

This topic was a long time pending in my blog. Which ever channel you tune in, there will be one or more reality shows telecasted by the channel. If we just go few years back then most of the reality shows were limited to Dance and Singing competition. Close-up Anthakashari, TVS Sa Re Ga Ma PA were few standard shows which i would like to remember.
But these days we get to see plenty of reality shows in various channels on various subjects.

Types of Reality Shows:
Celeb -Reality: Reality shows were celebrities are the main audience
example: Big Boss, Nach Baliye, Iss jungle se muje bachavo,
Game Shows: Reality shows that are based on games.
example:Kaun Banega Crorepati , Dus ka Dum, Kya aap Panchvi pass ho ?,
Talent Hunts: Reality shows that are looking for talented people be it singers, dancers or even actors.Example: Indian Idol, Sa Ra Ga ma Pa Little Champs, Dance Premier League, Laughter challenge etc
Very latest and quite weird shows being sach ka samna, perfect bride, pati patni aur woh. Clearly, reality television is another attempt to test all boundaries of tolerance. Without clear guidelines and no regulation or accountability in the broadcasting sector.
For most of these reality shows the concepts were taken from western television shows.

I personally feel, not every successful reality shows of international market holds good for Indian television market. We have got 100 channels and 70% of those channels telecast one or more reality shows. In many dance shows, the participants who participated in a dance competition in a certain channel will be judge in some other dance show in some other channel. I really have a serious doubt, how real are these reality shows ?? People are fed up of seeing those Balaji serials and hence turned towards reality shows. And now too much of reality shows is also loosing interest. Am sure people who seriously followed Big Boss 1 has now lost interest in seeing that show.
And why our Indian television industry is limiting only to game shows and entertainment shows ? There are many other shows which really make a difference and very well required for our young and intelligent Indians. The job hunt shows like 'The Apprentice' where Sir Alan Sugar gives exciting tasks to candidates and test their capability in holding a job in his office with six figure salary.
Dragons' Den is another show where entrepreneurs pitching for investment from some of Britain's top business brains. Am sure there are many young entrepreneurs with lots of interesting ideas requiring the financial need. This show helps in nurturing young talents and their ideas.
I just end this post in the hope at least in the near future our Indian television industry concentrates on something educative and informative programs rather than attracting viewers in the name of reality and creating controversies and increasing their TRP.

But i feel when you know what you are going to get by being in such a show, people shud back off. Candidates cant be themselves and start doing things behind each other.... which i really hate to see. I dont know abt others !!!!!!
